How to Make Chicken and Cheese Puff (Traditional & Healthy Version)
Chicken and Cheese Puff is an irresistible savory pastry that has found its way into Indian bakeries and home kitchens, especially in urban areas. Traditionally enjoyed as a tea-time snack or light lunch, this dish blends juicy, spiced chicken with creamy cheese, all enveloped in a flaky, golden layer of whole wheat atta-based pastry. While not originally Indian, this fusion snack has become a favorite during festivals like Christmas and Eid, and is a popular treat during family gatherings and get-togethers. The Indian version of Chicken and Cheese Puff is distinct for its use of local spices like garam masala, dhania powder, and fresh green chillies, which add a flavorful Indian twist. By using homemade atta dough and low-fat cheese, this recipe provides a healthier alternative to store-bought puffs that are often high in refined flour and fat. Its delightful aroma and rich taste make it a popular choice for both adults and children, offering comfort and nutrition in every bite.

Why This Dish is Healthy
This recipe is a healthier alternative to traditional bakery puffs, thanks to the use of whole wheat flour, lean chicken, and low-fat cheese. Baking instead of frying minimizes oil usage. The inclusion of dahi in the dough adds probiotics for gut health. The balanced combination of protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats makes it a smart choice for those tracking calories or managing weight.
These Chicken and Cheese Puffs are packed with lean protein from chicken, calcium and protein from low-fat cheese, and dietary fiber from whole wheat atta. Using olive oil instead of butter reduces saturated fat. Spices like garam masala and dhania powder add antioxidants. The dish is baked, not fried, making it lower in calories and fat. Essential minerals like iron and magnesium from atta support metabolism and muscle function.
