Spaghetti Chicken Tikka is a unique fusion dish that beautifully blends the robust, smoky flavors of classic Chicken Tikka with the comforting strands of spaghetti. This Indian recipe is an innovative take that brings together the beloved tandoori masala profile and the convenience of whole wheat or multigrain spaghetti, making it a perfect, health-conscious meal option for lunch. The succulent pieces of chicken marinated in dahi (curd) and traditional spices, tossed with al dente spaghetti, provide a delightful harmony of textures and taste. Originating from the kitchens of creative Indian home cooks, Spaghetti Chicken Tikka is now a popular choice at family get-togethers and festive gatherings. It’s especially enjoyed during festivals like Holi and Diwali, when families look for innovative yet familiar flavors. The blend of aromatic garam masala, tangy dahi, and fresh dhania (coriander) makes this dish a favorite across regions, especially in North India. Its appealing taste and nutrition-packed profile make it a great choice for calorie-conscious individuals who don’t want to compromise on authentic Indian taste.

  • 1 medium Tomato (finely chopped, tamatar)
  • 1/2 medium Capsicum (shimla mirch, thinly sliced)
  • to taste Salt (namak)
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard oil (sarson ka tel)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves (dhania, chopped) - optional

Instructions

  1. 1

Marinate the chicken pieces with dahi, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt. Let it rest for at least 10 minutes.

    10 minutes

For deeper flavor, marinate for 30 minutes or more in the fridge.

  2. 2

Boil water in a patila and cook the whole wheat spaghetti as per packet instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    10 minutes

Add a pinch of salt and a few drops of oil to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

Heat mustard oil in a tawa or non-stick pan. Add marinated chicken and cook until golden and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

    10 minutes

Ensure oil is hot before adding chicken for a smoky tikka flavor.

  4. 4

In the same tawa, add sliced onion and sauté until translucent. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.

    4 minutes

Saute on medium heat to avoid burning the masala.

Why This Dish is Healthy

Unlike creamy or heavy pasta dishes, this Indian fusion recipe uses minimal oil, lean meat, and whole grains, making it lighter and more nutritious. The absence of cream and use of curd instead reduces saturated fat content. The inclusion of fiber-rich vegetables and whole wheat spaghetti makes it suitable for those tracking calories or aiming for weight loss without sacrificing flavor or satisfaction.

This Spaghetti Chicken Tikka recipe is rich in lean protein from chicken breast, which supports muscle repair and satiety. Whole wheat spaghetti adds dietary fiber, aiding digestion and keeping you full for longer. The use of low-fat dahi provides calcium and probiotics for gut health, while fresh vegetables supply essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. Mustard oil, when used in moderation, adds heart-healthy fats and a unique flavor.

Pro Tips

  • 💡Tip 1: Marinate chicken longer for juicier, more flavorful tikka.
  • 💡Tip 2: Use whole wheat or millet-based spaghetti for a healthier twist.
  • 💡Tip 3: Always cook mustard oil until it smokes lightly to remove bitterness.
