How to Make Soaked Chickpeas with Lemon (Traditional & Healthy Version)
Soaked Chickpeas with Lemon, known as 'Nimbu Chana' in many parts of India, is a refreshing, protein-rich lunch option that has been enjoyed for generations, especially during hot summer months. This simple yet flavorful dish features safed chana (white chickpeas) soaked overnight and tossed with fresh lemon juice, chopped onions, green chillies, and aromatic Indian spices. It is a staple for those seeking a light yet satisfying meal, and is especially popular in North India, where it's often served as a quick snack or as part of a wholesome lunch. The tangy zest from lemon (nimbu) perfectly complements the earthiness of chickpeas, making it a palate-pleasing combination. Traditionally, this dish is served during festivals like Holi and Navratri, when many households prefer sattvic, vegetarian, and minimally-cooked foods. It’s also a go-to option for fasting days (vrat) or as a protein boost post-morning pooja rituals. With its vibrant flavors, minimal oil, and abundant nutrients, Soaked Chickpeas with Lemon is a true testament to India’s diverse and health-focused food culture.
