Easy

Peanut Chocolate Bar is a delightful fusion snack that blends the nutty richness of peanuts (moongphali) with decadent dark chocolate, offering an irresistible treat for lunch or mid-day cravings. While chocolate-based sweets are gaining popularity in India, peanuts have been a staple ingredient across regions, celebrated for their earthy flavor and energy-boosting qualities. In many parts of India, such as Gujarat and Maharashtra, peanuts are used in chikki and ladoo, making this bar a modern twist on traditional sweets. These bars are perfect for Indian festivals like Diwali or Holi, where gifting and sharing homemade treats is customary. The recipe is designed to be health-conscious, using jaggery (gur) instead of refined sugar, and incorporating rolled oats (jai ka dalia) for added fiber. It’s vegetarian, easy to prepare, and can be customized for dietary needs. The Peanut Chocolate Bar combines local ingredients with a contemporary approach, making it a snack that’s loved by children and adults alike. Its balanced sweetness, crunchy texture, and chocolate coating make it ideal for lunchboxes or as a festive offering.

Ingredients(for 2 medium bars (approx. 40g each))

  • 1/2 cup Peanuts (moongphali) (roasted and unsalted)
  • 1/3 cup Dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa)
  • 1/4 cup Jaggery (gur) (grated)
  • 1/4 cup Rolled oats (jai ka dalia) (lightly toasted)
  • 2 tbsp Desiccated coconut (nariyal ka bhoora) (for added texture) - optional
  • 1 tsp Ghee (for binding)
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder (elaichi) (optional, for flavor) - optional
  • a pinch Sea salt (optional, balances sweetness) - optional
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla essence (optional) - optional

Instructions

  1. 1

Dry roast peanuts (moongphali) in a tawa on medium flame for 4-5 minutes until golden and aromatic. Allow to cool, then coarsely chop.

    5 minutes

    Roasting enhances flavor and crunch.

  2. 2

Lightly toast rolled oats (jai ka dalia) for 2-3 minutes in the same tawa. Set aside.

    3 minutes

Toasting oats boosts their nutty taste and digestibility.

  3. 3

In a pan, melt ghee and add grated jaggery (gur). Stir until jaggery dissolves and begins to bubble, then add cardamom powder if using.

    5 minutes

Keep flame low to prevent jaggery from burning.

  4. 4

Mix in roasted peanuts, toasted oats, desiccated coconut, sea salt, and vanilla essence. Stir well to combine all ingredients into a sticky mixture.

    3 minutes

Mix quickly as jaggery sets fast.
