Kathal Sabji, also known as Jackfruit Curry, is a beloved North Indian vegetarian dish renowned for its meaty texture and robust flavors. Popularly prepared in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab, kathal (jackfruit) is considered a perfect substitute for meat in vegetarian households, especially during festivals like Holi and weddings when elaborate meals are served. The dish blends tender kathal pieces with aromatic spices, creating a wholesome curry that’s rich in taste and tradition. Kathal Sabji is typically enjoyed with roti, paratha, or steamed rice as a hearty lunch. Its unique flavor profile, combining earthy masalas and the subtle sweetness of kathal, makes it an ideal choice for those seeking nutritious vegetarian options. The sabji is celebrated for its versatility, as it can be cooked dry or with gravy, and is often featured in festive thalis. It’s also a great way to introduce regional vegetables into everyday meals, offering both culinary variety and nutritional benefits.
