Chicken Xacuti, known locally as 'Shagoti', is a beloved Goan chicken curry that beautifully blends roasted spices with coconut for a rich, aromatic experience. Originating from Goa, this dish is a staple during festive occasions and family gatherings, especially in the Konkan region. The unique flavor of Chicken Xacuti comes from a special masala made with poppy seeds, grated coconut, and a variety of Indian spices like coriander (dhaniya), cumin (jeera), and black pepper. Traditionally enjoyed with steamed rice or 'pao' (Goan bread), Chicken Xacuti is an excellent choice for lunch due to its hearty, satisfying nature and authentic Indian taste. This recipe focuses on a healthier version of Chicken Xacuti, using minimal oil and lean chicken breast to keep the calories in check. The dish is not only packed with vibrant flavors but also delivers a wholesome meal that fits well in a balanced Indian diet. The use of fresh ingredients and home-ground masalas ensures a nutritious option that doesn’t compromise on taste. Chicken Xacuti is a great representation of Goan culinary heritage and brings the coastal flavors of India right to your table.
