How to Make Til Ladoo (Traditional & Healthy Version)
Til Ladoo, also known as Sesame Laddu, is a classic Indian sweet that holds a special place in Indian households, especially during the winter months and festivals like Makar Sankranti and Lohri. These delicious ladoos are made from roasted til (sesame seeds) and gud (jaggery), offering a delightful nutty taste and natural sweetness. Til Ladoo is cherished for its simplicity, wholesome ingredients, and cultural significance across regions of India. The preparation of Til Ladoo is deeply rooted in Indian tradition, symbolizing warmth and togetherness during the harvest season. In many families, making these ladoos is a festive ritual, often passed down from generation to generation. The unique blend of sesame seeds and jaggery not only makes them flavorful but also highly nutritious, making Til Ladoo a great choice for those looking to enjoy authentic Indian desserts in a health-conscious way. Its chewy texture, combined with the crunch of til and the aroma of cardamom, creates a truly satisfying treat for all ages.
Ingredients(for 2 medium ladoos)
- 1 cup White sesame seeds (til) (सफेद तिल)
- 1/2 cup Jaggery (गुड़, grated or chopped)
- 1/4 cup Peanuts (मूंगफली, roasted and coarsely crushed) - optional
- 2 tbsp Desiccated coconut (सूखा नारियल) - optional

- 1 tbsp Chopped almonds (बादाम (optional)) - optional
- 1 tbsp Chopped pistachios (पिस्ता (optional)) - optional
- 2 tsp Water (to help melt jaggery)
- a pinch Salt (optional, enhances flavor) - optional
Instructions
- 1
Heat a heavy-bottomed kadhai or tawa on medium flame. Dry roast the sesame seeds (til) until they turn light golden and start to pop, about 4-5 minutes. Stir continuously to prevent burning.
5 minutes
Roasting enhances the nutty aroma and makes seeds crunchier.
- 2
Transfer the roasted til to a plate. In the same kadhai, dry roast peanuts until golden and aromatic. Remove skins and coarsely crush them.
3 minutes
Using roasted peanuts adds protein and texture.
- 3
If using, lightly roast desiccated coconut for 1 minute until fragrant. Set aside.
1 minute
Dry roasting coconut intensifies flavor.
- 4
In the kadhai, add jaggery and water. Heat on low flame, stirring continuously until jaggery melts and forms a syrup. To check consistency, drop a small bit in water—if it forms a soft ball, it's ready.
5 minutes
Do not overcook jaggery, or ladoos will turn hard.
Why This Dish is Healthy
This Til Ladoo recipe uses jaggery instead of white sugar, providing natural sweetness alongside valuable minerals. Roasted sesame seeds supply healthy fats and plant-based protein, while peanuts add extra nutrition and satiety. The absence of maida or refined flour keeps it wholesome and suitable for weight management. Portion control is simple, and each ladoo offers a nutrient-dense snack or dessert option for those seeking a healthier Indian sweet.
Til Ladoo is packed with nutrients thanks to sesame seeds, which are a rich source of healthy fats, protein, calcium, iron, and magnesium.
